Domestically Challenged

I cook. I sew. I clean. I crochet (well I'm learning). I craft. I DIY. I make Halloween costumes. I garden. I try to have our meals mostly homemade. I try to heal with natural God given things. My sister and mother call me a Holly Homemaker. I'm just doing what comes natural and what I love.

I've always said I was in the wrong era. You know Those pictures of the women in the 50's with their hair done and in dresses with aprons and all these freshly cooked/baked foods, and their houses sparkling clean...you know, June Cleaver? Or how about the ones with the women out gardening or milking the cows, or feeding the chickens, with a baby on her hip and kids playing around her and learning from her while she works? Yeah, that's me. Well, that's who I try to be anyways..... And it's been working until recently.

All of a sudden in the past few weeks/months my house has gotten messier, my cooking has, well, you read about the butternut squash soup right? My kids are hearing me less, hy hubby is getting neglected, and I'm constantly tired because im trying to catch up on it all. I feel Domestically Challenged and I don't like it!

The only solution I have is to go back to basics and make small goals, schedule, and dive right into all of it. Most importantly I need to remember WHY I'm doing these things and for who I am doing them.

WHY OH WHY did my homemaking skills disappear?!?!?! How do I get them back?! Have you ever gone through a spell like this? What did you do to get out of said spell?

Accomplished a Goal and It Felt GREAT

On Sunday I had the chance to complete a goal of mine. I tackled The DC Color Run. It was a blast! we even had the chance to meet a fitblr we follow!

If you have never heard of The Color Run, it is a 5k that you can walk, run, bring your kids, use a jogging stroller...Whatever. It's the "happiest 5k on the planet". Anyways, at each kilometer there is color station, where they throw or spray colored corn starch on you. I know, I know. A little strange. It was SO much fun though.

Each area that The Color Run is held in has a different charity attached to it. D.C.'s was Childrens Hospital. I think it is a wonderful thing they have going there, Getting to help your community while doing something for yourself.

My dad came up and watched us run and hung out for a little while afterwards. You have NO IDEA how happy this made me. He knew I couldn't run the whole thing yet and yet he was still proud enough of the effort I was making to come cheer me on. I have a truly wonderful Father!

My friends and I were right at the start line! SOOO exciting and nerve-wrecking at the same time! There were so many people there, SO MANY! We took off as soon as we could, then walked, then more running, you get the point. after you cross the finish line you get to throw your own color packet up with tons of other people.

I can't wait for next year..I promise you, I will Run the entire thing!

Attempt at Butternut Squash soup

I keep seeing all these wonderful fall soups! I LOVE soup and I like to try new foods. So I decided I was going to try butternut squash soup.

I read over several recipes, all pretty basic. They all included just a few simple ingredients and not a lot of work. It looked simple enough. All I had to do was cut the squash in half, scoop out the seeds, and roast the squash. While the squash was roasting in the oven, I sautéed some onions and got the rest of the ingredients out. Fast foreword to the squash and onions being done. I put the squash, onions, a couple spices (garlic, and nutmeg, cinnamon) into the food processor. It smelled delicious! I put the mixture into a put with a little broth to warm it back up. I was getting so hungry! It looked and smelled wonderful!

Now it was time to serve it and taste it I made a bowl for me and princess. Immediately I noticed WAY too much garlic :-( I don't know what happened I only put a little in! Poor princess she at a couple bites looked up and said "momma I'm not hungry anymore". I couldn't help but laugh. I said " honey is Momma's soup gross?! Do you need something else to eat?" She of course said yea and I got her something else to eat.

The soup was delicious before the garlic. Next time ill make it without the garlic. 😜 Sorry for the awful pic I forgot to take a pic while it was all pretty.

Do you have any favorite fall recipes? Any tips on butternut squash soup?

Every Ending Comes With a New Beginning

We had a sad weekend. Saturday our dog passed away. She will be greatly missed.

I'm trying to remember that it's all according to Gods plans. It's so weird around the house without her. Sunday and Monday were awful for me. I know some people may think its silly to be this sad over a dog, but we loved her very much.

We planted some flowers in the backyard to remember her by and zoey painted a picture frame and we wrote Luna on it and put a picture of her in it and Princess put it in her room.

We will miss her greatly but with every ending comes a new beginning.

We will be getting a new puppy in a few weeks. A male boxer pup that Princess wants to name Charlie (we will see if that changes by the time he gets here LOL). We have picture of him and we get daily updates of him. He peed outside for the first time today! Yay!

We are so excited about this new beginning and parts of me wish he was with us already, I'm glad to be able to grieve the loss of dear sweet Luna though. I loved her so, and Hubby and the kids did too.

I can't access the photos in my computer so I don't have a pic of Luna. So here is a photo of our new pup!
